Theme: Amazing Astronomy – This month, we’re reaching for the stars at Discovery Place Kids – Huntersville! Join us as we explore the wonders of space in our Amazing Astronomy programs. Kids will learn about how stars form, unique characteristics about the moon and how to survive in space!
Activities
January 1 – January 5: Moon Craters!
Join us this week as we talk about the Moon! We will explore the surface of the moon and learn why the moon looks like swiss cheese!
January 7 – January 12: Astronaut Academy!
Do you have what it takes to become an astronaut? Join us for a hands-on program where you’ll complete physical exercises, test your skills with space-themed tasks and experience the challenges of working in astronaut gear! Get ready to train like space explorers!
January 14 – January 20: Star Formation!
Have you ever wondered how stars, like the Sun, are formed?! Join us for a hands-on activity to simulate how gas and dust clump together to form stars!
January 21 – January 26: Cool Constellations!
Embark on a journey through the stars as we explore the shapes and stories of famous constellations! Using star maps as inspiration, kids will create their own constellation art and learn how ancient cultures used constellations to navigate and tell stories!
January 27 – February 2: Rocket Power!
Blast off into the world of rockets as we discover how rockets work and why they’re essential for space exploration. Then, build your own paper rocket and launch it to see how far it can soar. Get ready to aim for the stars!

January 19 (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): Bach to Rock
Join us at the Town Hall stage to learn about music with Bach to Rock! Come Rock Out with us during their Rock City class.
January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Join us at the Town Hall Main Stage at 1:30 p.m. for a special story time to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
January 25 (8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.): Nose-to-Nose Member Event
Hold onto your hats and tails – it’s time for adventure at Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville with our first Member event of 2025! Prepare to get nose to snout with a real-life reptile friend at Nose-to-Nose. It’s going to be a scale-tastic experience!
All Month Long
Puppet Show (9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.)
Circus of the Stars: When everyone gets sick, Bambo the Clown must overcome his stage fright to be the Ringleader of the Circus!
Science Show (10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.)
Join us at the Town Hall all month for an adventure in science. Predict, observe, and experiment with different topics. From color-mixing to chemical reactions, our Science Show is sure to instill curiosity in our little scientist.

Big Fun (4:15 p.m.)
Big Fun is the time of the day when children and adults move and groove to three of our favorite songs. Put your dancing shoes on and join us for this daily dance party!

Join us in I CAN Create this month as we see how talented we can be. Little artists can stop by anytime to paint, color, build or draw a masterpiece.
