LEGO® & Engineering Summer Camps in Huntersville

Do you have a child who sees a pile of bricks and imagines a castle? Or one who is always asking “How does this work?” while taking apart your toaster? At Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville, our LEGO® & Engineering summer camps turn that natural curiosity into constructive creativity.

From simple block play for our Pre-K campers to advanced robotics and structural engineering for our 1st and 2nd graders, we provide the tools and the challenges to build the next generation of innovators. Using LEGO® bricks, recycled materials, and real tools, campers learn that the best way to learn science is to build it yourself.

2026 Camp Lineup: Building & Innovation

Construct your perfect summer.

Pre-K (Ages 4-5)

Start Your Engineers

  • Dates: July 6 – 10 | August 10 – 14
  • The Project: Start your engines! This camp introduces early STEAM concepts through the lens of racing. Campers use blocks and simple machines to design and build vehicles that roll, race, and zoom. It teaches cause-and-effect in a fast-paced, fun environment.

Kindergarten (Ages 5-6)

LEGO® Mania

  • Dates: June 22 – 26 | August 3 – 7
  • The Project: The ultimate camp for LEGO® lovers! We take building to the next level by creating blueprints and tackling group challenges. Campers explore structural integrity (why did my tower fall?) and collaboration, using everyone’s favorite bricks to solve engineering problems.

1st & 2nd Grade (Ages 6-8)

Rockin’ Robotics

  • Dates: July 6 – 10
  • The Project: Get ready to bust a move with your very own robot creation. This camp moves beyond static building to dynamic engineering. Campers learn how to construct, command, and control robots, unlocking the code to a summer full of bot-loads of fun.

Operation Destruction

  • Dates: July 20 – 24
  • The Project: What goes up must come down! Young engineers explore how things work by taking gadgets apart and putting them back together. Discover the basics of circuits and design in a week of tinkering, teamwork, and deconstruction.

Cinematic Science

  • Dates: June 22 – 26 | August 10 – 14
  • The Project: Movie magic meets engineering. Young scientists explore the real science behind special effects in films like Star Wars. Through creative builds and experiments, they learn how engineers make the impossible look real on screen.

Why Build at Discovery Place Kids?

The Engineering Design Process
We don’t just free-build; we follow the professional cycle of Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, and Improve. This teaches resilience—when a tower falls, it’s not a failure; it’s data for the next design!

Fine Motor Skills
Manipulating small LEGO® bricks, connecting circuits, and handling tools builds the hand strength and dexterity children need for writing and other school tasks.

Collaboration
Engineering is a team sport. Our challenges require campers to communicate, negotiate, and work together to build bridges that hold weight or cars that drive straight.

Frequently Asked Questions (LEGO® Camps)

Q: Do campers get to keep the LEGOs?
A: To keep our camps affordable and well-stocked for everyone, the LEGO® sets and robotics kits remain at the museum. However, campers take home plenty of other creations and memories!

Q: My child is new to robotics. Is “Rockin’ Robotics” too hard?
A: Not at all! We use age-appropriate, intuitive robotics kits designed for 6-8 year olds. No prior coding experience is needed.

Q: Is “Operation Destruction” safe?
A: Yes! Campers use safe, age-appropriate tools under close supervision to disassemble low-voltage electronics. Safety goggles are mandatory!
