DESCRIPTION:February Kids Activities at Discovery Place Kids – Huntersville\nLooking for indoor kids activities in Huntersville this winter? Discovery Place Kids – Huntersville is the perfect place for families to explore\, play and learn together. From science shows to story time\, every visit is filled with hands-on fun for kids of all ages. \nAll museum events and activities are free with admission. \nFebruary Theme: Olympics & Black History Month: This month we are celebrating the spirit of the Olympics while honoring Black History Month. Through inspiring stories of trailblazing athletes children will learn about teamwork\, determination\, healthy bodies\, and believing in themselves. Each week we will connect movement\, creativity\, and real-life role models\, encouraging kids to dream big\, try new things\, and discover the power of hard work and resilience. Plus\, our museum will have an Olympic challenge competition to complete all around the museum. \nSpecial Programs\nFebruary 1 – 9: \nBobsled Engineering: Kick off the Olympic season by reading about the Jamaican Bobsledding team that made history with their journey to the Olympics. After the story\, children can design and build their own bobsleds with recycled materials. This will take patience and teamwork just like real Olympic athletes.   \n\nStory time in Create | 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. | Yes\, I can! The Story of the Jamaican Bobsled Team by Devon Harris  \n\nFebruary 10 – 16: \nRun\, Jump\, Breathe: This week we explore the story of Jesse Owens while discussing how athletes keep their bodies strong\, especially in their hearts and lungs. We are going to bring cardiovascular health to life by making a DIY lung model to see how breathing fuels movement to keep us active and healthy.  \n\nStory time in Create | 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. | Just like Jesse Owens by Andrew Young\n\nFebruary 17 – 23: \nGold Medal Smiles: When you win an Olympic medal\, it is a tradition that you take a photo biting your medal. We are going to learn why dental care is important every day! Children will be able to practice flossing and brushing on a large scale!  \n\nStory time in Doctor’s office | 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. | How to Brush Your Teeth with Snappy Croc by Jane Clarke  \n\nFebruary 24 – 28: \nDream Big: Ever wanted to explore the Olympic villages\, join us as we take inspiration from our story book to design and build our own winter Olympic village using recycled materials. You can add a house to our village or make your own to take with you home while you watch the games!  \n\nStory time in Create | 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. | Dream Big\, Little Pig! By Kristi Yamaguchi \n\nGet Museum Admission

This month we are exploring Suminagashi\, the ancient Japanese art of paper marbling. Kids can experiment with ink and water to create their own one-of-a-kind print!  \nFebruary 16 | DPKH is Open!\nSchools out for the day\, so join us to play!  \nFebruary 4\, 11\, 18\, 25 | BellaBallerina Dance Party! | 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. \nBellaBallerina is a literacy-based dance studio that caters to ages 18 months to 10 years old. They use story integration and imagination to teach most of our dance classes so students can get used to creating imaginative worlds\, learn dance in a nurturing environment\, and have fun  \nDaily Programs  \nPuppet Show | 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.\nCircus of the Stars: When everyone gets sick\, Bambo the Clown must overcome his stage fright to be the Ringleader of the Circus!      \nScience Show | 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  \nJoin us at the Town Hall all month for an adventure in science. Predict\, observe\, and experiment with different topics.  From color-mixing to chemical reactions\, our Science Show is sure to instill curiosity in our little scientist.   \nBig Fun | 15 minutes before closing\nBig Fun is the time of the day when children and adults move and groove to three of our favorite songs.
